The murder of Shepparton teenager Michelle Buckingham and the chase to catch her killer decades after her death was the focus of a crime show on Channel 7 on Sunday, October 22.

Miss Buckingham was murdered in 1983, but her death remained unsolved for decades until then News journalist Tammy Mills decided to delve into the cold case.

Sunday night’s program Ron Iddles: The Good Cop showed how the investigation unfolded.

It focused on former Melbourne homicide detective Ron Iddles re-telling the story of the investigation into the murder of Michelle Buckingham, who was then aged 16.

Miss Buckingham’s body was found on November 7, 1983, 10 days after she was reported missing.

She had been stabbed 19 times.

The case remained unsolved for nearly 30 years until Ms Mills wrote a front page story in September 2012, titled ‘Who killed Michelle?’.

Two years later, Steven James Bradley was sentenced to 27 years in jail for her murder.

The television program featured Mr Iddles and Ms Mills, along with Bradley’s brother-in-law who first told police of Bradley’s connection with the case.

Shepparton criminal lawyer Brian Birrell also featured in the program.

The program was filmed several years ago and was first shown on Foxtel in January 2019.
