Greater Shepparton City Council have announced that residents can now register their interest in the nappy collection service.

The service will collect both nappy and incontinence aids to free up the red bin space and divert nappy waste from landfill.

According to a 2021 regional waste audit, Greater Shepparton has the highest concentration of disposable nappies in all the regions surveyed.

They found that disposable nappies make up 30.5 per cent of all general waste by volume and 18.3 per cent by weight.

This service is an initiative that will repurpose nappies into a new product.

The collection service will start in the coming weeks, with council yet to announce a date.

This announcement comes amid changes to kerbside bin collections across Greater Shepparton.

Red rubbish bins will be collected fortnightly, alternating with the recycling bin each week and the green organic bin will be collected weekly.

Transition dates differ depending on your address, but residents can look up the changes for their household by searching their address on council’s website.
