President Donald ‌Trump's administration has asked the US Congress for $US87.6 billion ‌in additional funding, most of it for "urgent ‌needs" related to the Iran war.

The request, posted on the White House ‌website, included $US67.15 ‌billion for the military for what it said were needs related to the war, including "funding for military personnel and readiness expenses, operational costs to rebuild stocks."

The White House said the request includes $US21 billion for the Pentagon to procure munitions, strengthen the US industrial base and support critical capabilities.

It arrived just hours after President Donald Trump assailed Republican senators during a private lunch - engaging in a shouting match with one - over their votes to approve a war powers resolution that would halt further hostilities.

The White House request also includes $US500 million for Global Health Security to prevent, ‌detect and respond to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of ‌the Congo, Uganda and other countries.

"This funding is critical to protect Americans, and stop the spread to the United States," the White House said.

The request seeks $US800 million in ‌international humanitarian assistance to support the response to the Ebola virus outbreak in Central Africa, including a quarantine facility in Kenya.

It also contains $US11.1 billion to support US farmers.

"I urge the Congress to take action on these important and urgent requests as soon as possible," said Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson.
