Nearly 5000 are confirmed dead following two devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, as the toll continues to rise more than two weeks since the powerful twin tremors struck.
National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez on Sunday revealed at least 4490 people had died in the tragedy, up from Saturday's official toll of 4333.
More than 16, 740 were injured in the quakes and the United Nations has estimated that 50,000 are missing in the rubble.
Rodríguez, the brother of interim President Delcy Rodríguez, said on X that 108 shelters had been set up to accommodate more than 19,000 people who lost their homes in the quakes.
Two powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 shook Venezuela on June 24. More than 1000 significantly weaker aftershocks have followed.
More than 850 buildings lie in ruins or have been severely damaged, especially in La Guaira, a coastal city near Caracas.
