A masterful innings by Bamawm-Lockington United opener Josh Cairns against Cooma has kept the Lions undefeated heading into round five of B-grade Goulburn.
Cooma sent BLU into bat at Bamawm Recreation Reserve, a decision which proved to be fatal, as Cairns blasted 111 at the top of the order to power his side to a total of 211.
Cooma’s captain Ethan Palma-Ludeman (65) did his best to get his side over the line with help from Bailey Hiscock (20) and Xavier Fawcett (24).
However, BLU’s bowling proved too strong as Gideon Flett, Camern Laird and Royce Serpell took two wickets apiece to bowl Cooma out 22 runs shy of victory.
Elmore (1-77) has shot into second in the standings behind Moama after defeating Echuca (76) in round four at Elmore Recreation Reserve.
The Redbacks rolled the men in green as captain Tyler Oliver taking 4-12, with opposition captain Jayde Caldwell (16) the top scorer for the visitors.
Losing one wicket, Matt Gilmour (35 not out) and Matthew Wooley (36 not out) guided the host home, comfortably inside 16 overs.
To round out the grade, Stanhope (4-122) defeated Colbinabbin (9-121) at Colbinabbin Recreation Reserve.
The host batted first, with captain Fletcher White (32) leading from the front with some assistance from Samuel Coughlin (24) as Stanhope’s William Seedsman took 4-7.
In the second innings, it was a collective effort with the bat, spearheaded by captain Luke Twynstra (42) and Josh Densley (28), getting the job done with a little more than 10 overs to spare.
B-grade Murray
Rochester (5-120) kept its unbeaten streak alive in round three, taking down Kyabram Fire Brigade (117).
Batting first, Shaun Doolan’s unbeaten 51 was the only resistance against Rochy’s potent bowling attack, led by Leigh Hartshorne 3-34.
In the second innings, Rochy got home inside 21 overs, with Craig Williams top scoring with 40 not out with Jake Wright (28) and Donald Young (27) adding valuable contributions.
C-grade
Bamawm-Lockington United (9-170) snuck home against Echuca South (168) at Echuca College.
The Swans batted well in the first innings, with Ryder Roussis (30), Jordan Hutton (29) and Thomas Miechel (20) all scoring runs as Nathan Neville took three wickets.
However, it was BLU’s all-round efforts with the bat, led by Neville (39) and Justin Guppy (28) that allowed the Lions to escape with a one-wicket win.
D-grade
Bamawm-Lockington United (4-121) got an upset victory over Kyabram Fire Brigade (120) and Tongala (185) took down Colbinabbin (7-166).
