Winter arrived for the Goulburn Murray Women and Girls League at the weekend.
Gloomy skies and a downpour of rain made for tricky conditions during the youth girls fixture between the league’s two United clubs.
Shepparton United hosted Echuca United at Kialla Park for round nine on Sunday afternoon.
The dreary weather affected the Demons’ fortunes in front of goal in a loss, as they booted 2.6 (18) to 6.5 (41).
Echuca United was at its busy and damaging best as star Harper Delamare ran riot again.
Delamare has booted 12 goals from her seven games (featuring in the best seven times) in between her duties for talent development squad Bendigo Pioneers.
For United, Keeley Wellington was named as her side’s best, while captain Jazmin Mathers and Jarinda Bamblett were the two goal-kickers.
Other youth girls results had Moama beat Nathalia by 46 points and Barooga down Shepparton Swans by 32.
In the senior competition, Rumbalara dominated Barooga away from home on Sunday.
Rumba were in control from start to finish as the visitors recorded a 48-point victory.
However, the win could have been greater with Rumbalara booting 7.13 for the match, including five straight behinds in the last quarter.
Rumbalara coach Shannon Atkinson said the conditions made it tough for his players to keep their skills sharp.
“The ball was a bit waterlogged and made it hard for the girls to kick the ball,” Atkinson said.
“I think the girls played really well, they are starting to play as a team.
“I think our biggest strength is our speed.
“Across the whole game, they are starting to run in numbers and support each other.”
The eight-goal victory has Rumbalara sitting in third place with four wins and four losses.
Atkinson said a couple of young guns impressed in Rumba colours against the Hawks.
“Kady Harrison (two goals); she played a really good game,” he said.
“Being a small forward she had plenty of the ball.
“Kiah Atkinson just improves each week.”
Around the grounds, Echuca dominated Mansfield at Victoria Park.
The Murray Bombers downed the Eagles 57-2 to draw level with Shepparton United (had the bye) on points, albeit the Demons have one game in hand.
Meanwhile, Nathalia breezed passed Tatura to the tune of 61 points.
The game was played on Friday 13 and had a clear star.
Purples' Abby Favaro was at her best, spooking the lights out of the Bulldogs with a bag of five.
