You could feel the tension and excitement building the minute you walked through the door of the magnificent Shepparton Croquet Club.

This was a special event — the Goulburn Valley Croquet Association Champion of Champions.

The club champions from all clubs were represented. From Deniliquin in the north to Euroa in the south, Numurkah in the east and Kyabram in the west and all clubs in between.

The scores for the two days were a true indication of the skills and tenacity of all members.

Winners were as follows:

Division one: John Young (Mooroopna), runner-up Andy Davis (Deniliquin)

Division two: Taryn Arho (Mooroopna), runner-up Cherie Lessing (Rich River)

Division three: Mick Sullivan (Kyabram), runner-up Sharon Wolfe (Echuca/Moama)

Congratulations to all players who competed.

The winners will now play against other Victorian regional winners at the Victorian Croquet Centre Cairnlea on April 11-14.

There were many highlights during the day, it really was an exceptional tournament.

Euroa's Kevin Milner from Euroa displayed some of the best roquets you would see.

It was also a nice touch when Mick Sullivan spoke about no longer having his close mate Tom Haigh with us.

This competition of croquet was played in the manner you would expect, with fantastic sportsmanship and skills on display.

Happy hooping.
