The nets were rippling and Goulburn Valley Suns’ young guns were shining on a postcard perfect day for football at McEwen Reserve Shepparton on Sunday.
Round five of the Junior Boys’ National Premier League Two South-East welcomed Nunawading City to town and the visitors proved to be a worthy match-up across all three grades.
In the under-14 division, a William Mathers brace paired with Sonny Slater’s strike propelled the Suns to a 3-1 victory over Nunawading.
The under-15 clash was much more tight-lipped, with Suns’ Christopher Stivactas cancelling out City’s second-half goal to share the points 1-1.
Finally, the Suns’ under-17s took a 2-1 lead into half-time against Nunawading courtesy of Joseph La Gamba and Anania Dieudonne, but the visiting side left with a 3-2 triumph thanks to a pair of late goals.
