For the second week running Echuca United was unable to dig itself out of a hole after starting slowly in Murray Netball League.

In the midst of a horror run against the league’s top sides the Eagles were slowly outclassed by the 8-2 Mulwala.

The Lions built a healthy portion of their lead in the first period, getting ahead by 11 goals, 18-7 by the first interval, and they would go on to extend that advantage by a further six before half-time.

United declined further in the third to trail by 24 goals at three-quarter time, but rallied in the fourth, going down narrowly in its best period of the contest.

Mulwala defended home court in the 58-31 final result.

Having now played each of the league’s top five consecutively, the Eagles can look forward to a less challenging match-up on paper on Saturday.

Barooga, 2-8, will visit Echuca South Recreation Reserve, giving United an opportunity to return to the winners' column for the first time since round four.
