Kyabram cricket star Kyle Mueller faces a huge challenge in scoring the most runs in a season in the history of Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield.

The modern record mark and possibly the all-time record was set at 849 runs by Numurkah star Mark Brown in the 2012-13 season.

Other fruitful seasons with the bat in the same competition in the modern era were enjoyed by Central Park-St Brendan’s batter Sam Ahmet with 831 in the 2006-07 season, Mooroopna’s Brad Lowe with 751 and Central Park-St Brendan’s champion Rohan Larkin (749).

Mueller made 600 runs prior to the festive break and didn’t bat when the season resumed on January 8 due to commitments with the victorious Victorian side at the National Country Cricket Championships.

With a general bye in the competition over the holiday weekend and Kyabram having a bye in the round starting this Saturday, Mueller may have only two more chances to edge pass Brown’s record in the final two two-day home and away games.

Kyabram’s last two games – against non-finalist Old Students and ladder leader Central Park-St Brendan’s could provide the chance for Mueller to bat four times although unlikely.

He will need to score at least a combined 250 runs in those two games to relieve Brown of his record.
