A heroic fourth-quarter fightback by Picola United wasn’t rewarded in round 8 Picola District Football League action.
The Blues travelled to Berrigan for a battle with the Saints in a game that swung back and forth throughout, the changing of ends proving a crucial factor to each teams' momentum.
Berrigan had the best of the opening period, kicking three goals to one, but Picola would respond with a four to one advantage in the second, to lead 35-29 at halftime.
The pendulum swung back towards the Saints in the third and the hosts opened up a 21-point, lead by the final change.
Picola was back on song in the final period, booting 3.3, but Berrigan was able to limp home with its one fourth quarter major proving the difference.
The final score saw Berrigan, 10.8 (68), survive Picola United, 9.8 (62).
A slight dip in form has seen the once undefeated Blues drop their last two matches and fall to fifth on the league ladder.
Rhys Woodland’s side will have an opportunity to regroup over a week off as it heads into the bye, before returning to on June 7 against two-time defending champion and undefeated ladder-leader Waaia.
