Cardboard-filled container caught fire at tip

A large container containing cardboard was well alight when CFA crews arrived at a tip fire on Friday, May 23, a spokesperson said.

Seven CFA units, supported by Fire Rescure Victoria, responded to the fire at Ardmona Waste Transfer and Resource Recovery Centre on Turnbull Rd at about 10.29am.

The fire at the waste management facility was under control at 10.49am, and described as safe at 1.09pm.

A community advice message was issued at 11.14am due to heavy smoke in the area, which was visible from nearby roads and communities.
