Fifteen pairs of young people from the Finley and Cobram areas made their ‘debut’ to society earlier this month.
Two debutante balls were hosted over two weekends, each under the guidance of long-time dance instructor Vicki Ackers who took on the role of MC for both evenings.
On May 3, the couples were presented to Finley High School teachers Kathy Dempster and Madeline Jackson.
On May 10, the couples were presented to Mrs Dempster and fellow Finley High teacher Jacqui O’Bryan.
Dances performed across both evenings were the Rhumba, Gypsy Tap/Evening 3 Step, Tangoette and Progressive Samba.
The young couples also performed to Thriller, and the traditional parent dance was a hit on both evenings.
“The 2025 debutantes were amazing young people to work with,” Mrs Ackers said.
“The debutantes were from the Finley area, with some travelling from Cobram surrounds too.
“Both evenings were excellent, and we want to say thank you to the Finley RSC for the fabulous venue, the excellent food, and their outstanding support each year.
“Thanks also to Dysons for donating two buses for transporting the debutantes from the photographic venue to the RSC.
“The photography by Rhonda Doyle of Cobram Photographics, who always does a great job, and we thank Karen Daniels for her work with the flowers.
“Both debutante balls had seating for 250 people, including debutantes - coming to support each other’s nights - and their families.
“They danced the nights away to Fall-Out Coverband.”
This year’s debutantes selected the Finley Athletics Club to receive proceeds from the balls as a community donation.
Debutantes out of the Finley area wishing to register for the 2026 ball are invited to contact Mrs Ackers on 0417 469 005.
