Yarrawonga’s Frank Keenan Reserve Parkrun will celebrate its 100th event this Saturday, May 25.
Parkrun stalwart Tim Roadley said this week the run will be significant in a couple of ways.
“This milestone is very relevant as our own event was the 100th different location for parkrun in Victoria,” Tim said.
“As well as the 100th event, the event will have 5000 finishers on the day which is an average of 50 people per week or 25,000km.
“To celebrate we are going to hold a ‘Run in Black’ special event where people are encouraged to run in something black. This could be just a black shirt or a full dress up in a costume such as Batman, Batgirl even a witch or member off the Adams Family.”
You may ask why parkrun is so popular. It's Free - no registration fees to join, you can sign up if you want or just turn up a join in.
It's Inclusive and open to people of all ages and abilities.
The event provides an attractive course along the walking track around Lake Mulwala from Cinamans island reserve and along Silverwoods.
“You can choose to either run, jog or walk and many visitors to the town participate and enjoy the course,” Tim said.
“It's rewarding and recognition is given to participants who complete certain targets.
“And it’s very social as it's a run not a race, with an opportunity to catch up each week and then after we meet at Thyme for Coffee.”
Parkrun occurs at the same time at 8am each Saturday morning.
