VikingGenetics tops major breeds

VikingGenetics has set a new Australian record by becoming the first genetics company to secure the number one Australian daughter‑proven bull in all three major dairy breeds in the same proof run.

In the December 2025 evaluations, VH Ascari BPI 651 (Holstein), VJ Gislev BPI 615 (Jersey), and VR Vimo BPI 563 (Red Dairy Cattle) each claimed the top daughter‑proven positions in their breeds.

VikingGenetics Australia also holds the number one ranking in Jerseys and Red Dairy Cattle for the Sustainability Index.

VikingGenetics Australian director Erik Thompson said this was the first time in the Australian market, a dairy genetics company had the number one Australian daughter-proven bulls for the three major breeds within the same proof run.

Mr Thompson said it was an exceptional result that reflected the strength of the company’s breeding strategy.

“Despite our smaller footprint in Australia, these milestone results prove that data‑driven decisions and Nordic breeding principles deliver world‑class genetics that thrive under local conditions,” he said.

VJ Gislev is the top ranked Jersey overall, sitting 57 points ahead of his nearest rival in balanced BPI and 193 points clear of the next Australian Proven Jersey bull.

In the Red Breed, VikingGenetics secured all three of the top Balanced BPI positions, as well as the number one Australian daughter‑proven bull, VR Vimo.

Mr Thompson said these results reaffirmed VikingGenetics’ leadership in Red Dairy Cattle, an important contributor in the Australian pasture‑based production system.

Supporting Holstein performers also showed strength with VH Novak ranked #1, VH Baford #6, VH Ascari #9 in daughter fertility and for reliability VH Friday ranked 3rd, VH Ascari 5th.

VikingGenetics has long had a strong genetic influence in Australia, including the likes of VH Booth who held the number one Australian proven ranking in April 2017 and even now still has almost 1000 daughters currently in milk across over 90 Australian herds.

“This latest achievement demonstrates genetic accuracy, not scale, is the ultimate competitive advantage,” Mr Thompson said.

Each of the top‑ranked proven bulls is supported by extensive Australian, Nordic and international daughter performance data, ensuring that breeding decisions translate reliably into Australian conditions.

“Securing the number one Australian daughter‑proven bull in Holstein, Jersey, and Red Breeds reinforces VikingGenetics’ reputation for sustainable, profitable, and highly dependable genetics.”
