Emergency services were called to a vehicle on fire on the Murray Valley Hwy just past Echuca Racecourse on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were directing traffic as firefighters controlled the blaze.

Drivers were urged to take care while driving in the area.

The fire occurred a day before a Total Fire Ban was declared for the Northern Country on Thursday where temperatures reached the high 30s and even low 40s in some areas.

This comes off the back of damaging storms, fires and power outages across the state in recent weeks.
