The seventh annual Alexandra Rodeo kicks off on Saturday, January 13 with its usual fare of entertainment and spills for all ages.

The event usually pulls a crowd of about 5000 and this year will be bookended with music from local and renowned talent.

Tayla Arnett will perform in the hour leading up to the competition starting time of 5pm and Danny Phegan and his band will close the night with a two-hour set from 10pm.

Alexandra Events president Andrew Embling said the rodeo was unique due to its staging location.

“Our rodeo is a bit distinct because the arena is at the bottom of a small hill and it’s like an amphitheatre,” Mr Embling said.

“And on top of the hill is where we have food and amusements.”

Alexandra Events also runs the town’s famous Truck, Ute and Rod Show every King’s Birthday weekend and proceeds from this event will go towards the community’s mental health program.

“The night will feature everything from bucking bulls to saddle broncos,” Mr Embling said.

“There will be barrel racing, breakaway roping and steer wrestling as well as team roping.

“We also have a local steer ride and of course the junior events.”

Full catering and bar service will be provided, with gates opening at 3pm
