The members of the Lockington Red Cross held their first meeting for 1974 on February 4th, in the Church of England Hall.
It was reported that help had been given to a local family who had suffered from a fire disaster.
Wool had been purchased to knit knee rugs for the patients in hospital, while $100 had been sent to headquarters.
Discussion took place on the annual Red Cross Calling March Appeal, when memebers call on residents of Lockington and surrounding districts for donations. Final arrangements will be made at the next meeting.
It was also stated that 183 new subscriptions had been collected on election day. Christmas cards and ball point pens had also been sold.
The regional representative, Mrs J. Crow reported that World-wide Red Cross Day would be held as last year, with a mannequin parade and luncheon.
The upset victory by Lockington over the previously unbeaten Rovers, has made Ramblers task of making the final four a very hard one, with only one round to go.
Ramblers must play top team Rovers, and it is quite possible Ramblers could defeat Rovers on the first innings, but it is highly unlikely that their bowling line could dismiss Rovers twice, to gain outright victory. For this would be the only way they could make the four, and even then it may not be enough.
Ramblers (fifth), are two points behind Lockington, and four points behind Toolleen.
Lockington play Goornong at Lockington. Goornong have not won a game for the season, and on numerous occasions have been beaten outright.

A $3.5 million four screen cinema and a 400 seat performing centre arts centre complex for Echuca is being considered by Campaspe Shire after a proposal was put to councillors from a local developer.
The developers include Echuca/Rochester accountant Steve Stubberfield and operators of a three-screen cinema in Warragul, Graham and Deborah Hollingsworth.
Releasing details of the proposal on Thursday, council said the complex, which would be located in High St, would significantly boost the region’s tourism and performing arts potential.
At least 100 district farmers, on the Campaspe and Goulburn irrigation systems, have 10 per cent or less of their water right left for this season - for most, that equates to less than one watering of their irrigated pasture.
The 4.2mm of rain recorded in Rochester on the weekend, followed by strong winds and a resurgence of hot weather, has done nothing to alleviate their problems.
Irrigators on both Campaspe and Goulburn received 100 per cent of their water right this season but no sales water allocation. (Goulburn irrigators began the season with only 40 per cent water right which increased to 100 per cent after heavy November rains.)
A haystack fire on an Elmore property on Friday flared again on Saturday when strong winds fanned the smouldering mass back into life.
The fire destroyed the haystack and shed on Neil and Joy Worme’s property on the Raywood Road, Hunter.
Around 11am on Friday two units from Elmore and one from Hunter raced to the blaze, which had already taken a hold of the stack of 100 or more round bales stored in a shed. An excavator was called in to pull the bales out and reduce the bulk of the stack so CFA volunteers could soak the smouldering bales and extinguish the fire.
Rochester United had an outright victory over Bamawm-Lockington United in round 13 of the Campaspe Cricket Association on Saturday.
BLU were chasing Rochester United’s first innings tally of 361, but fell short with only 183 runs on the board.
United returned to the crease to score 3/78 and take the points. Michael Dobson scored 55 for BLU, while team mate Eric Bish added 48 not out.

The 40 °C temperature last Thursday kept Katandra West dairy farm visitors in the shed, but conversations about herd type and buying water heated up.
Hosts Nick and Jane Andrews surprised about 40 dairy farmers and support industry staff at their focus farm field day with their decision to change herd type from Holsteins to Jerseys.
The Holstein herd — which presenter farm consultant Phil Shannon described as ‘‘big and beautiful’’ — is the result of 40 years of artificial insemination breeding, but Mr Andrews wants smaller animals with better fertility and feed efficiency.
