Purple lid bins roll out in Greater Shepparton

Delivery date: New purple lid bins have arrived in Greater Shepparton and are about to be delivered to residents.

Purple lid bins will start arriving at addresses in Greater Shepparton from Monday.

Greater Shepparton City Council is introducing the new bins under the Victorian Government’s standardised four-bin system.

The purple lid bin will be exclusively dedicated to the recycling of glass bottles and jars.

Council said delivery of the bins, which are 120 litres in size, would begin on Monday, April 8.

They will be collected every four weeks on the same day as the property’s usual kerbside collection.

The separate purple lid bin has been added because glass often breaks, and when mixed with the other recycled items, such as cardboard and plastic containers, it can be difficult to separate, contaminating the recycling process.

Council said introducing the purple lid bin would streamline recycling efforts and recover resources more effectively.

Council will confirm when the purple lid bin collection service is to begin at a later date.
