The play equipment at Echuca’s Apex Park on High St is undergoing a revamp with the removal of the old rubber compound that prevents children from injuring themselves.
A skip truck was spotted about 4pm on Wednesday, with the last of the loads being taken away from the site.
With the rubber failing on one of the playgrounds and signs of wear and tear, the council decided to remove and replace the rubber compound in both areas.
Campaspe Shire Council communities director Jo Bradshaw said the works would provide a safe play area for children.
“The two playgrounds at Apex Park are currently having the rubber soft fall renewed because the current rubber surface has reached the end of life, requiring its removal,” Ms Bradshaw said.
“Holes had developed in one section of the playground, which led to the closure of a piece of play equipment.”
The works began on December 4 and are weather dependent, however they are expected to be finalised by the middle of this week.
Rubbertough Industries is installing the new material, which has an expected lifespan of 10 or more years.
“We look forward to having both playgrounds reopened (this week) before the holiday period,” Ms Bradshaw said.
