Peterson suffers election eve heart attack

Grateful: Seymour’s Dr Rob Peterson has survived a heart attack.

Dr Rob Peterson’s family has confirmed the Seymour resident and United Australia Party candidate suffered a heart attack on the Thursday night before the Federal Election.

In a post on Facebook, Dr Peterson’s son Mark confirmed his father was “safe and well”.

“Lucky he’s a doctor and was able to diagnose himself and get himself into care swiftly,” he said.

“He is now safe in the Epworth awaiting a triple bypass heart operation, expected in the coming days.

“He is sorry he’s not been able to keep everyone informed but is very thankful to all those who helped him for his campaign. He literally put all of his heart into it.

“Hopefully (with) a ‘reconditioned motor’ and no more smoking, we might have a new Doc on our hands.”

The family was hoping the operation would take place on Thursday and passed on the candidate’s “gratitude” to everyone who volunteered on his campaign.
