Greater Shepparton Seniors Festival: What’s on in week three

The ever-entertaining 2023 Victorian Seniors Festival continues. Until October 31, senior citizens in Greater Shepparton are invited to partake in free to low-cost activities. Find details of some of week three’s events below:

Tuesday, October 17

Flock of Ages — Pottery Bird Making Workshop

Add some clay to your day! In this pottery workshop, instructors will guide you through creating a clay bird with unique patterns and designs. Once the creations are dried, organisers will fire them in the kiln, and the flock will be installed on a wall for all to enjoy. No experience required. Stop by any time between 9.30am and 2pm.

Helen Elliott is the next novelist scheduled to give an author talk at Tatura Library. Helen will speak about her recent book, Eleven Letters to You, an original memoir relaying her childhood in the suburbs of Melbourne in the 1950s and ’60s pre-feminism. Afternoon tea provided. Bookings preferred.

LGBTIQA+ seniors luncheon — Silver Rainbows Program launch

With Greater Shepparton City Council’s support, GV Pride is launching its newest program, ‘Silver Rainbows Social Support Group’. The event centres on inclusiveness and diversity, and GV Pride will provide information on engagement and upcoming social activities. Bookings required.

October 21 and 22

Model Railway Exhibition

Stationed in Shepparton: A nationwide showcase of the best model train layouts will be displayed at the McIntosh Centre on Saturday and Sunday. Photo by Ray Sizer

All aboard the Model Railway Exhibition — a showcase of model train layouts from Greater Shepparton, Melbourne, Wangaratta, Sydney and beyond. There’ll be historical and collectible displays, model railway and rail memorabilia sales, and displays from remote control cars and planes, drones and Lego. Plus, a ‘U-drive’ layout allows children to run some extraordinary engines. Refreshments available.

When: Saturday, October 21, from 9am to 5.30pm, and Sunday, October 22, from 10am to 4pm
