Get approval before you build

Goulburn-Murray Water is reminding people planning to undertake works on G-MW owned and managed land to ensure they have approval to do so.

The authority’s Works Approval Permit covers landscaping, vegetation management and construction and repairs of structures such as jetties and boat ramps.

G-MW business and finance general manager Michael Gomez said it was important people obtained the necessary permits before starting works.

“As the weather gets warmer there are generally a lot of people who look to undertake works on G-MW land,” he said.

“In addition to storing water for customers, our storages provide various recreational opportunities for communities and landholders.

“Our approvals process ensure any works on G-MW land are safe and do not impact other users’ enjoyment of the storage, so it is crucial that anyone who thinks they might need a licence applies for one.”

Depending on the location, works may also need approval from the relevant councils or catchment management authority.

To apply to undertake works on G-MW land, people can expand the ‘Property Services’ tab on the ‘Forms’ page of the G-MW website: https://www.g-mwater.com.au/customer-servicesresources/forms
