Local Mitchell Shire artists’ work will be showcased at the hArt of Mitchell Exhibition.

The exhibition, which runs from June 9 to 29, only features artists who live, work or are connected to the shire.

During the exhibition there will be an interactive workshop with artist Lisa Dallest. Attendees are invited to try their hand at collagraph printing on Saturday, June 18 from 2pm to 4pm.

There will also be an artist talk and demonstration from Marina Villani, who will explain and demonstrate the process of kiln-forming and slumping on Sunday, June 26 from 2pm to 3.30pm.

A networking event for anyone who loves being creative has also been planned for Thursday, June 16 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The event, which will be facilitated by creative consultant Debby Maziarz, includes professional development discussion, provocative conversations and networking opportunities.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm was pleased the council could put the spotlight on artists from the region.

“We’re excited to be encouraging local artists and providing them a place locally to display their work,” he said.

“I look forward to seeing what’s on display from both established artists and young people just starting out.

“It is great to see this space activated once again. I hope to see more exhibitions taking place into the future and would encourage community groups to present ideas regarding the better utilisation of this area. It has huge potential as a community asset.”

The exhibition runs from Thursday, June 9 to Sunday, June 26 at the Mitchell Shire Council Chambers Gallery, 113 High St, Broadford.

Opening hours are Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
