Mathoura Football Netball Club will have their Ladies Day this Saturday, and will face a tough task in the Waaia Bombers.
The senior footballers side is continuously working on improving.
Last week the side took on Picola away.
The task was difficult and the results reflected it, Picola winning 33.22 (220) to Mathoura’s 01.04 (10).
Mathoura did take a bit of a drubbing, but they are set in their plans to be able to turn things around.
It starts with fostering a strong culture, improving each week and investing in the juniors, senior coach Adam Bourke said.
“We do a whole club training on a Tuesday, so the thirds are running around with the senior guys, which is really good for them.
“They played really well against a good Picola thirds team, and, if they had kicked a little straighter they probably would have won, they won the shot on goal tally.
“Look, at times we are struggling for numbers in our two senior sides.
“That being said, there were more than 30 blokes at training, which is really healthy numbers.“
But the senior side could well be in for another difficult task this week.
Waaia are one of only four sides in the Picola League’s senior football competition who remain undefeated.
They have had massive wins against Rennie, by more than 100 points, and are last year's senior premiers.
“It is a bit frustrating, coming off the Easter break and not having full availability of senior guys, but, we felt as a group we had improved last week,” Bourke said.
“But we as a senior side and club are excited. We want to play against the best sides, like Waaia, and be competitive.”
All the small things do count - correcting those skill errors, and small improvements every week.
The result in this one won’t be the main focus for Mathoura, rather their own development.
The senior match will be held at the Mathoura Recreation Reserve from 2.05pm Saturday.
Ladies Day also gets under way about 2pm, with the ticket price including drinks and nibbles until 6pm.
There will then be a DJ from 6pm until late.
Ladies Day tickets are $60, and a bus is available at an extra cost. Book now at https://www.trybooking.com/DBCPS.
