'Relief and reform': pre-election budget promises

WHAT'S IN THE 2026/27 NSW STATE BUDGET?

TRANSPORT

* $100 off car registration and $80 off motorbike registration, worth around $435 million

* Weekly road toll cap cut from $60 to $50, with administration fees scrapped

* Public transport fares frozen at 2025 rates

* $6.5 billion over 10 years for a 1000-strong fleet of electric buses and depots

ENERGY

* $557 million in interest-free loans, along with other discounts, to install energy-saving technologies designed to lower power bills

* Water bill rebates for eligible pensioners and community organisations

HOUSING

* First home buyers to save $20,400 in transfer duty exemptions for purchases up to $800,000

HEALTH

* $11.9 billion to build and upgrade hospitals

* $10.3 billion to increase services and staff

* The funding is designed to create capacity for 33,000 more emergency department visits a year, along with 2900 more surgeries and 11,000 more dialysis treatments

EDUCATION

* $9.2 billion for 260 new and upgraded schools

* Up to $4456 fee relief from community and mobile pre-schools

* Up to $2563 fee relief for long daycare programs

FAMILY VIOLENCE

* $184 million to six frontline specialist domestic and family violence programs, a 50 per cent funding boost over four years

POLICE

* $94 million for a specialist armed response command

* $109 million in technology upgrades

* $43 million across 10 years to the NSW Firearms Registry for tighter checks and licensing

* $17.4 million to the NSW Crime Commission to disrupt organised crimes

PUBLIC SERVANTS

* $1000 one-off payments to more than 100,000 government employees, triggered because the inflation level in Sydney was more than four per cent
