A global US e-commerce giant is investing more than $750 million to build its second robotic warehouse in Australia, a mammoth facility that will be the largest warehouse ever constructed in Queensland.

Construction on the Amazon fulfilment centre in southern Brisbane has already begun and will support 2,000 jobs, with another 1,000 new jobs created once it is completed in 2028.

The facility at a 10-hectare Charter Hall logistics estate in Logan will cover 150,000 square metres across four levels, a floor area equivalent to 18 rugby league fields and almost double the size of Suncorp Stadium.

"It's a monster," Amazon Australia's director of operations, Wayne Angus, told AAP on Wednesday.

It'll have the capacity to house over 15 million of the smaller items sold on amazon.com.au and offer smaller and mid-sized Queensland businesses the "super exciting" ability to market goods across Australia, he added.

Jobs at the warehouse will range from entry-level roles, requiring zero previous experience, to high-level technical roles in IT, human resources and robotics maintenance.

Amazon's robots will handle the heavy lifting at the plant, with each robot capable of moving 500kg and making decisions using centralised planning software, including responding during power outages.

Workers will wear "robotic tech vests" - utility belts designed to alert the robots to their presence when they're in the area to avoid collisions.

Amazon's other robotic warehouse in Australia is even bigger, a 200,000-square-metre facility located in Kemps Creek, western Sydney.

The new warehouse on the Mount Lindesay Highway in North Maclean will serve the whole of Queensland, offering customers in the state faster delivery as well as adding redundancy to Amazon's operations.

Items weighing more than 16kg will continue to be handled from existing facilities in the Brisbane suburb of Lytton.
