Every dog has its day — unless you’re a dryland sled dog.
Those puppies have three.
Over the King’s Birthday weekend, from June 7 to 9, the Northern Victorian Sled Dog Club Classic drew over 100 mushers and their canine competitors to Moira Park in Kialla West.
Whether on scooters, bikes or carts, all acted the same when the clock struck go.
Lines pulled taut, eyes crazed, paws acted like springboards.
Humans hung on.
Northern Victorian Sled Dog Club secretary Vanessa Kydd said the wet weather did not deter those from across Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia from attending the event.
Nor did it dampen spirits.
“It’s been a bit wet, but the track condition is quite good,” she said.
“All different breeds have raced, and all different people have had a go at the sport.”
Furthermore, the event raised funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia by donating 10 per cent of race entry fees and all profits from merchandise, while also hosting awareness programs throughout the weekend.
Ms Kydd said she wished to thank the Shepparton community for their ongoing support year after year, as well as all the local sponsors of the event, particularly major sponsor Greater Shepparton City Council.
