Following Jersey Australia’s Dairy’s Finest Showcase Sale, another 31 donated lots went under the hammer in a charity auction ‘In Bert’s Memory’ to raise funds for cancer research through the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre.
Held at Jersey Australia’s annual general meeting and conference at Coffs Harbour on May 24, the fundraising auction was dedicated to the memory of Robert Bacon, of Brookbora stud.
The fundraising auction raised $38,978.
Combined with donated funds from the Dairy’s Finest Sale, the fundraising auction raised a gross of $45,820.
There were no costs associated with the fundraiser auction, with everyone donating their goods and services, which means the total amount of $45,820 will be the full amount donated for cancer research.
Robert’s family and friends hope to raise further funds by participating in Run Melbourne on July 16 in his memory.
The fundraising auction’s donated lots included art, sports tickets, accommodation, many units of semen, a package of embryos and a package of genomic tests.
There were many generous bidders, often paying above market value.
The top price of $4000 was paid for Lot 27, a package of 10 units of sexed semen, buyer’s choice, donated by Agri-Gene. Brian and Jo Dickson were the successful bidders.
Lot 9 was a package of five embryos, using eggs from Cairnbrae Valentino Estelle 34, donated by Andrew Younger of Kaddy Jerseys, sold at $3000.
The package was the buyer’s choice of five units Madill P (sexed), five of Chrome (conventional and sexed) or five units of Izuku (conventional).
Phil Ryan, of Bega, was the lucky bidder, and he chose embryos using Izuku.
Lot 10 was 20 Vision 75 Genomic Tests donated by ST Genetics Australia, that sold at $2300.
Lot 13, buyer’s choice of 10 units of sexed semen, donated by Semex, sold for $1500.
