The Mooroopna Rotary Club hosted an official plaque unveiling for the Mooroopna Community Tree installation next to the Mooroopna Water Tower on Saturday, July 13.

The event drew about 50 attendees, including artist Andrew Whitehead, creator of the recycled steel tree, City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali, Deputy Mayor Sam Spinks and councillors Fern Summer and Anthony Brophy.

After the unveiling, guests enjoyed coffee at Mooroopna Pizzeria, where the Rotary Club expressed interest in adding lighting to the tree for a more visual effect.

The recycled steel tree features intricate designs of local wildlife and symbols, including insects, lizards, snakes, marsupials, fruits and small plasma-cut images.

The tree reflects all parts of the Mooroopna and surrounding communities, including the local indigenous communities.

Naming plaques and leaves are still available for purchase to be added to the tree. Organisers issued a big thank you to the major sponsors and contributors.
