Award recipients, back, Tony Rando, Sylvain Bourat, Barry Hinchcliffe, Doug McKeown, Howard Lowe, Trevor Carlisle, Darryl Hill, Stuart Grinter and Anthony Sofra. Front, Col Grinter, Don Sofra, Pete Caccianiga, Graeme Sprunt and Trevor Blake.

Kaarimba Fire Brigade celebrated 10 years since its new fire shed opened on Sunday, November 17.

Around 60 locals attended, viewing a display of memorabilia and enjoying entertainment from mini fire trucks powered by a fire hose.

Long-serving brigade members were presented with awards by BASO John Parnell.

Howard Lowe received his 65-year medal, which was overdue by a few years, as he has been a member for 69 years.

Doug McKeown and Col Grinter both received 50-year awards.

The Great Kaarimba Bake-off was also held at the hall next door, marking its 10th year after a break due to COVID-19.

The crowd enjoyed an afternoon tea with bake-off entries.

The huge cream sponges disappeared in minutes, and Trevor Carlisle’s famous man-sized scones were a favourite.

The trophy for the best men’s chocolate cake went to Stuart Grinter.

A pleasant and relaxing afternoon was had by all.
