Illawarra takes top spot

An eight -year-old Illawarra has taken out the premier title at International Dairy Week.

Wallumlands Sunstorm 8th — co-owned by Tennyson’s Daniel Bacon, Dingee’s Ben Govett and Cohuna’s Glen Gordon — was awarded Australian Grand Champion, beating plenty of tough competition.

The Illawarra also took out the event’s Grand Champion Illawarra Exhibit last , with judges congratulating the trio on a ‘‘magnificent weekdairy cow’’.

Entry numbers were mixed compared to last year because of tough seasonal conditions, and those who did attend had to battle the elements with temperatures hitting the high 30s and low 40s across the five days of competition at Tatura Park.

And the seasonal conditions that stopped many from attending also slowed the bids at the Jersey and Holstein sales, with top prices of $8000 and $16000 respectively.
