Goulburn-Murray Water will soon begin releasing water through Lake Eildon’s spillway while maintenance works are conducted on the power station.
During standard operations, G-MW passes releases from Lake Eildon through Eildon Power Station.
However, when required, the water can instead be released via Lake Eildon spillway’s cone valves and gates to ensure water is delivered to entitlement holders.
G-MW Water Storage Services general manager Alan Shea said making releases in this manner would not alter downstream conditions.
“On Tuesday, May 8 we will transition to releasing water through the spillway cone valves instead of the power station,” he said.
“While the method of releasing the water will change, we will continue to make releases to meet downstream demands.
“Conditions downstream will subsequently be no different than if the water was being released through the power station.”
Towards the end of May, G-MW will undertake maintenance works on the cone valves at Lake Eildon.
When these maintenance works begin, releases will instead be made through the spillway gates.
The maintenance works on the power station are expected to be completed in early June.
Releases will then recommence through the power station in line with normal operations.
