Woodfine reaps monster haul

Rochester under-18s footballer Tobie Woodfine definitely had his kicking boots on at the weekend, with the Tigers’ forward enjoying a day out in front of goal against Tatura.

The young star entered the match already leading the competition’s goal-kicking tally with 18 goals to his name from the three games he had played, with a haul of 12 against Benalla in round one already a mightily impressive feat.

But against the Bulldogs on Saturday at Moon Oval, Woodfine went not one, not two, but 10 better than his effort against the Saints, booting a remarkable 22 goals as his side cracked the double ton, running out a 34.14 (218) to 1.0 (6) winner.

Woodfine is now averaging a ridiculous 10 goals a game, sitting on 40 so far this season after four rounds, 18 ahead of his nearest rival, Mansfield’s Adam Storer, who has played an extra game.

The young Tiger has form in front of the big sticks, having last year won the Mal Reid goal-kicking award as the Goulburn Valley League’s leading goal-kicker in the under-18 competition.

He kicked 47 goals in 15 games in 2023, a mark he looks set to well and truly eclipse this season.
