While, teenage compact speedcar driving sensation Aston Rodriguez may have come up short at the national titles in March, he got his mojo back claiming the ACT title on Saturday, April 5.
The 16-year-old added another state title to his cabinet to go along with his NSW and Victorian victories when he and his team travelled to ACT Speedway.
Rodriguez dominated his first two heats, starting in pole position in the first heat and retaining the top spot as he crossed the line.
His second was more of a challenge, starting in fifth position and came out of the pack to surge all the way to first.
He didn’t manage to crack a win in his third and final heat, again starting in fifth, he managed to claw his way to second.
His work in the heats earned him pole position to start the final, a position he wouldn’t relinquish throughout the race.
Coming out of a crowded first corner, Rodriguez showed the breadth of his skill and the car’s ability, jetting out to a large early lead.
Putting his foot on the throttle, he capitalised on his early lead and ultimately ended up overtaking the lower positioned competitors, driving smoothly through lap traffic.
Rodriguez ultimately took out the title with no issue, cruising to a third state victory in the 2024-25 season, with Bradley Anstis and Justin Paull rounding out the podium in second and third, respectively.
Elsewhere, Rodriguez was also nominated for his first Australian Speedcar Championship at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia.
Unfortunately, his championship debut ended before it even began, with the car blowing a head gasket after an engine swap on the way to Murray Bridge.
Up next on the calendar, Rodriguez will be racing for the Queensland title in Toowoomba on Saturday, May 17.
