Rochester 1 vs Echuca 2
Rochester 1 claimed a big 10-90 to 3-74 win over Echuca 2 at the weekend, ensuring it enters the break securely in second spot on the division one Campaspe Tennis Association ladder.
Jacob Grieves and Lachlan Smith each won their singles matches to get Rochester off to the perfect start at home, recording 6-3 and 6-4 victories, respectively.
Grieves and Tobie Woodfine kept the momentum rolling in the first of the men’s doubles rubbers, recording an 8-5 win over Ryan More and Chris Potter. However, Echuca hit back soon after.
Shaun Trice and Phil Higgins put the visitors on the board with an 8-4 win over Smith and Jaycob Dingwall, while Potter teamed up with Chris Milnes to record a tight 8-7 victory over Woodfine and Nash Hocking.
Rochester would dominate from that point on, however, with Kate Lee and Kaitlin Familari combining to claim their women’s doubles rubber 8-5, while Michelle Winchcomb and Karen Taylor paired up for an 8-6 win in their set.
Lee and Winchcomb united to prevail 8-5 as the home side continued to rule the court, while Familari and Taylor wrapped up a Rochy sweep of the women’s doubles sets with an 8-7 triumph.
The visitors would claim just one of the four mixed doubles rubbers, with Phill and Lucy Higgins defeating Dingwall and Winchcomb 8-3, as Rochester closed out its seventh victory of the season.
Echuca 1 vs LBU 1
Reigning premier Echuca 1 has made it a perfect 10 to start the season, defeating LBU 1 10-95 to 3-60 to enter the Christmas break with an unblemished record.
Echuca’s Nick Bush and LBU’s Darryl Squires split the men’s singles rubbers evenly for their sides, each claiming 6-4 wins in their respective clashes.
Squires would pair Harrison Condliffe to an 8-6 win in their men’s doubles rubber, although Echuca 1 got on top thanks to an 8-4 win courtesy of Bush and Todd Charnas, while Roger Carmody also tasted success alongside Charnas, with the duo also teaming up for an 8-4 win.
Echuca took the spoils in the women’s doubles rubbers too, claiming three of the four sets, with Melissa and Milly Haines securing LBU’s sole win there with an 8-7 triumph over Celine Joyce and Vicki Bavich.
All four of the mixed doubles rubbers went the way of Echuca who closed out yet another comfortable win to sit pretty atop the standings with a 10-point lead.
Division two
Rochester 2 vs Elmore 1
Rochester 2 proved too strong for Elmore 1 in their clash at Rochester Lawn Tennis Club, claiming a 10-76 to 3-52 win.
Ryan Byrne claimed a 6-2 singles win for Elmore, while Shane Bywaters hit back with a 6-0 win in his singles rubber for Rochester.
Byrne and Craig Skeers pinched a 7-6 victory in their doubles rubber, before Rochester rattled off a streak of wins, headlined by a 6-1 win to Bywaters and Riley Armstrong, which was matched by Christine Hooppell and Howard Armstrong who also recorded the same scoreline in their win.
Katherine Jamieson and Taylah Pratt secured the only remaining success for Elmore, prevailing 6-4 over Kyndalin Smith and Mandy Dingwall.
LBU 2 vs Echuca 5
LBU 2 claimed a strong 8-65 to 5-51 win over Echuca 5 at Lockington Bamawm United Tennis Club at the weekend.
Baxter Anderson continued his strong form with a 6-2 singles win for Echuca, while Stuart Newton hit back for the home side with a 6-4 win.
LBU’s Simon and Ashley Portwine combined for a 6-2 win in their doubles rubber, as did Nicholas Mitchell when paired with (Simon) Portwine, while Donna Glen and Vanessa Mahoney claimed a 6-2 win of their own for Echuca.
With the home side well ahead, Charlie Byrne and James Brentnall secured a 6-0 win in the final rubber, the only win to love for the day, to close out a solid win for LBU.
