While 2025 has been a strong season for Picola United’s senior football side, the Blues were put on notice in round 10.
Defending champion Waaia showed it is still the standard in Picola District Football League, convincingly downing the Blues by 69 points at Picola Recreation Reserve.
It wasn’t all bad news for Picola, which went kick for kick with the Bombers in the first half.
After Waaia got out to a two-goal lead at quarter-time, United surged back, winning the second three goals to one to trail by two points at the main break.
However, the half-time team talk did wonders for the champion and Waaia came out of the break firing.
The Blues couldn’t find the scoreboard at all in the third period, while the Bombers sent 4.4 sailing through the sticks.
Now leading by five goals, Waaia didn’t let up in the final period, kicking another seven majors, compared to one from Picola, to secure a big win.
For United, Cody Haub was the only Blue to strike more than once, while Waaia relied on the duo of Charlie Burrows (5) and Connor Brown (4) for its production.
While Waaia remains undefeated, Picola slips to 5-3 for the year and seventh on the ladder.
The Blues have already ticked off their bye for the year, meaning they have a game in hand against three of the six sides above them.
Next up is a trip to Dookie United, the Thunder having experienced a modest 3-6 return to life in the Picola league.
