Murray Bombers roar to life against Tigers

Echuca stormed back into form at the weekend on the Victoria Park netball courts, comfortably accounting for Rochester to arrest its early season slide.

The Murray Bombers were without a win since their opening round triumph against Mansfield heading into the contest, however they were able to put an end to their losing streak with an emphatic 59-24 win over the Tigers.

It was the reigning premier that got the jump in the first term to lead by four goals at the first break, a lead it extended to 14 after a dominant second term to be well ahead at half-time.

In a dominant showing, the group continued to enlarge the margin as the contest wore on, leading by 22 after the third term before a rampant final quarter saw the lead balloon out to the eventual 35-goal win.

Holly Chadwick led the way for the Murray Bombers inside the semi-circle, scoring 42 of her side’s 59 goals in a best-on-court performance, while coach Belinda Lees also performed well, putting through the other 17 goals.

The ever-reliable Ash Mangan was solid in defence once again, while Lucy Eishold also earned plaudits for her work in the midcourt.

Echuca will look to build its momentum over the next month of netball when it faces Mansfield, Shepparton Swans, Benalla and Tatura, four games the 2023 premier should expect to win.

At 2-3 and with a percentage above 100, the season is far from over for the Murray Bombers, although greater consistency is required if they are to remain in the hunt as the year progresses.
