The Bendigo Junior Classic was held from Saturday, January 25 to Monday, January 27 and Echuca Pirates sides were in the thick of the action.

Eighteen Pirates sides from under-12s to under-18s took part in the three-day tournament against sides from across the state.

Echuca’s two under-12 girls sides scored the best results among the locals, both teams qualifying for the finals stage.

The division one side went undefeated in pool A in the group stage, before defeating Wodonga Wolves in the semi-final 31-24.

The Pirates weren’t able to get past Traralgon T-Birds in the grand final, finishing in the runner-up position.

The division two under-12s girls qualified for the last four with a 4-1 record, but were eliminated by Bendigo at the semi-final stage.

The other finalist for the Pirates was the under-16 boys division one (championship) side which made the semi-final.
