Leitchville-Gunbower’s earned its first win in Heathcote and district football after defeating Colbinabbin by six points at Gunbower Recreation Reserve on Saturday, April 13.

It was a tense first period as both sides struggled to make meaningful contributions to the scoreboard, L-G kicking the only major of the term to lead 1.6 (12) to 0.3 (3).

It was in stark contrast to the second quarter, where the away side kicked 4.1 to the Bombers’ 3.2 to trail by just three at the main interval 4.4 (35) to 4.8 (32).

Scoring dried up again in the third as both sides kicked one major and the Bombers took a six-point lead into the final term.

Both sides managed 3.1 in the final term, resulting in a final score of L-G 8.12 (60) to Colbinabbin 8.6 (54).

The goals were spread around for the Bombers with Billy Hawken and Christopher Horman each kicking two, while Josh Hawken, Dyaln Jardine, Clay McGregor and Jobee Warde each added a goal.

Thomas Guerra picked up best-on-ground for Leitchville Gunbower, with Josh Hawken, Warde, Max Hagan, Bradley Green and Jye Keath rounding out the home side’s best for the round.

After defeat at the hands of Lockington-Bamawm United in the opening round, this marks the first win for the Bombers as they look to make a positive start to the 2024 campaign.

A trip to North Bendigo looms next Saturday, April 20, with the Bulldogs logging a win this week after a bye in round one.

L-G stage second-half fightback to continue winning start

Leitchville-Gunbower faced a tough test against Colbinabbin in round two of Heathcote and district netball but came out the other side victorious at Gunbower Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The Bombers started slowly and looked to be in trouble through two-quarters of play, trailing the visitors by six goals at the major break, 23-29.

The half-time break served as an ideal opportunity for L-G to regroup and refocus, and it looked a different side in the third turning around the deficit to lead by one at the final change.

The momentum continued in the fourth as Colbinabbin was unable to respond to the Bombers who secured a 54-46 victory, remaining unbeaten through two rounds of the young HDNL season.

They travel to North Bendigo who suffered defeat in their only match this season, after a round one bye.
