Blues mauled by Tigers

In a stark contrast to their previous meeting Cobram comfortably handled Tongala in round 15 of Murray Football League.

Tongala had beaten the Tigers at Cobram in May, but the tables were turned at Tongala Recreation Reserve, with Cobram well on top throughout the contest.

The first period was the Tigers' most dominant, piling on 7.5 (47) to 0.

Although the Blues were able to slow the opposition’s offensive output in the second, they weren’t able to muster much attack of their own, squeezing through two behinds to the Tigers’ 2.1.

Tongala kicked its first major after half-time, but the Tigers responded with five for the quarter to stretch the lead beyond 80.

The Blues restored a little respectability to the scoreline in the fourth, kicking two goals to Cobram’s one, but were well beaten, 15.9 (99) to 3.4 (22).

When Tongala did find its attack, Sam Cipriani (2) and Cameron Ilett finished off the moves with goals.

Cobram shared the goals around, five players logging two each.

Tongala (5-10) still has the other three of the top four remaining on its schedule, making it unlikely the Blues will improve from their current position of ninth unless they can score some upsets.

Next up is second-placed Moama, the Blues visiting Moama Recreation Reserve this Saturday before having a week off for the split round.
