Letter to the editor | Highways to foodbowl drowning in rubbish

I have always taken notice of the appalling amount of rubbish on our road network.

However, the amount of rubbish on the two highways leading to the ‘Foodbowl of Australia’ has gone to new heights.

The entire Hume Hwy from Melbourne to Seymour and the Goulburn Valley Hwy from Seymour to Shepparton is an absolute disgrace for a first world country with all sorts of rubbish, including hundreds of tyres strewn along the entire length of freeways.

No rubbish has been picked up for a least two years.

Also, why for example is the Calder Hwy cleaner than our highways? Answer: government management of the Hume region don’t see it as an issue.

Why do we have to wade through a sea of rubbish to get to Australia’s foodbowl?
