Undera will host a working dog training day, showing local farmers and city handlers the ropes.
The event by the Victoria Yard Utility & Farm Dog Association will feature experienced trainers demonstrating handling techniques.
“It's a bit of an introduction to dog handling,” trainer Roland Pell said.
“We’ll put some sheep in some yards ... and stuff that’s a bit slower for the young dogs.
“We’ll give them an idea of how to better manage their dogs and how to work their stock quietly and smoothly.”
Mr Pell has been a member of the VYUFDA for 30 years and said the training day was a great way to support the association and get the basics down when it came to working dogs.
“It’s just about trying to give people a better idea of how to handle their dogs,” he said.
“They’re becoming more and more important.
“We’re all very experienced, and if you go through the yard association, you’ll see what we do, we run a lot of trials and training days and different things.”
The day is titled From Starting to Polishing, and will be run by three trainers, including Mr Pell, with multiple training areas.
Booking fees are $125 for VYUFDA members and $175 for non-members.
A barbecue lunch will be available for attendees.
