Wall of Fame nominations open

Nominations are now open for the Deniliquin and District Transport Wall of Fame for 2024.

These nominations pay tribute to the local heroes of the transport industry across a wide breadth of the Southern Riverina region.

Inductions take place as part of the annual Deniliquin Truck Show and Industry Expo’s three-day event, which will be held this October.

Deniliquin and District Transport Wall of Fame co-ordinator John Creenaune said each is then added to the physical Wall of Fame, which is located in Davidson St, Deniliquin and stands as a testament to those who have made their mark in the industry.

“From current or former drivers, to mechanics, logistics and office staff, being nominated for this accolade and to have your name adorn the wall represents countless hours of commitment and dedication that we are grateful for,” Mr Creenaune said.

“We often get asked why someone isn’t on the wall.

“Without family, friends, employers and colleagues coming together at this time of year to nominate someone they feel worthy of being inducted, we might not even be aware of their input into the industry.

“We are reliant on these people to take the time to nominate.

“While all nominations remain in the nomination pool year after year, it’s always nice to see new nominees in the mix.”

The Deniliquin and District Transport Wall of Fame was first erected in Deniliquin’s Davidson St rest area in 2016, the first in the region.

This year’s ceremony will honour the eighth instalment of inductees.

Nominations are accepted from towns across the district including Deniliquin, Mathoura, Barham, Hay, Finley, Jerilderie, Berrigan, Barooga and Tocumwal.

All nominees receive a certificate recognising their nomination, and inductees are awarded with a take home plaque in addition to the one added to the Wall of Fame.

The annual gala inductee dinner will be held in Deniliquin on Truck Show eve, on Friday, October 25. Tickets for the dinner will be on sale soon.
