Tribute for dedicated tutors

In a special pre-Christmas celebration held last week, Deniliquin U3A paid tribute to two of its longest serving volunteers.

Part of the thank you to all the organisation’s volunteer tutors this year, a certificate was presented to Anne Apedaile in recognition of her work with U3A and that of her late husband Robert Apedaile.

“Both Bob and Anne were among the original members of Deniliquin U3A, which officially began on November 20, 2010,” U3A publicity officer Gayle Beckton said.

“They both served on the committee for many years in a number of capacities.

“They were leading a play-reading group before Deniliquin U3A even began, and this continued as a U3A activity under their leadership for a further 9 years.

“The certificates were awarded as grateful recognition of both Bob and Anne's contribution to U3A Deniliquin.”

The presentation was made during the U3A end of year Christmas party on Friday.

With 50 people in attendance, it was held at the Deniliquin RSL Club which has kindly hosted U3A activities throughout the year.

While enjoying a Christmas lunch, members were entertained by the U3A Ukelele group and their tutor Gai Burchfield, and Christmas Carols were sung with Phyllis Ball on the piano.
