Police are urging the community to be vigilant after an apparent spike in cars being targeted by thieves and would-be thieves.
Between Monday and early Thursday morning, police received eight separate reports of cars being targeted.
In some cases, the cars were locked and entry was not gained.
Others were not secured and items were stolen from inside.
The Pastoral Times also read one report on social media about a car allegedly being stolen from a Deniliquin home, however this was not in the official police report received before going to print yesterday.
It is not clear whether any of the incidents are linked.
Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said forensic testing has been conducted, and police investigations are ongoing.
Police are now asking anyone with CCTV around these locations, or anyone who has information, to contact Deniliquin Police on 5881 9299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to assist with the investigations.
“Police ask for any CCTV or other information to be shared with police when it is noticed that something has occurred,” Chief Insp Fuller said.
“We are in the age of social media where in a number of cases CCTV and other information is shared to social media sites before it is provided to police, and it can be very valuable investigative material.
“One of the technological enhancements that New South Wales Police now have includes BluLink - which links police and the community.
“This is a faster and easier way to share information with police that will assist investigations with this technology.”
Anyone who calls 000 may be sent a text message to BluLink to provide further information.
Among its advantages is the ability for police call takers and dispatchers to obtain the exact location of an emergency caller via a text link to obtain their GPS coordinates.
Live footage of emergencies can also be shared via the platform, in addition to CCTV and still images.

“The attempts to enter vehicles and the theft of property including wallets and purses, cash and other items of value highlights the importance of securing your personal items and not leaving them in your vehicle overnight,” Chief Insp Fuller said.
“Police are not here to blame victims - our job is to investigate and prosecute offenders. However, this is a partnership to keep a community safe and reduce opportunistic theft.
“You can reduce the impact of having personal items including wallets, cards, cash and other items being stolen by taking precautions such as taking these items inside and locking your vehicle.”
