A car was burnt after a breakdown.

The owners of a vehicle left on the side of the road after it broke down, returned the next morning to find it had been burnt.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Andrew Costello said the gold 2000 Nissan Patrol had broken down on Punt Rd at Murchison about 9pm on February 12.

The owners left it there overnight, and when they returned at 9am the next day to collect it, it had been damaged by fire, Det Sen Constable Costello said.

The officer said the vehicle had received “significant damage” and the fire was being treated as suspicious.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Det Sen Constable Costello at Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit on 5820 5777 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
