Shepparton homes evacuated after natural gas leak

Shepparton properties were evacuated after a chemical leak on the afternoon of Friday, August 8.

A 000 caller reported smelling gas and hearing a hissing noise at Claude St at 2.03pm.

Fire Rescue Victoria crews conducted initial chemical readings and determined a chemical was leaking in the area, after arriving at the hazmat incident within six minutes.

Firefighters evacuated nearby properties and advised people in the surrounding neighbourhood to stay indoors.

The incident was brought under control by 5.06pm.

Crews identified the leak as natural gas, isolated the supply to the property and left the scene at about 8.45pm.
