On Sunday, August 24, Benalla Highway Patrol was conducting patrols on the Hume Fwy when officers detected a utility allegedly travelling at 151km/h in the northbound lanes.
A Benalla police spokesperson said the speed was so excessive that other motorists were forced to take evasive action as the vehicle passed.
“When intercepted, police discovered the driver was on a probationary licence and were further shocked to learn there was a third passenger concealed under a tarp in the tub of the utility,” the spokesperson said.
“This reckless behaviour could have had devastating consequences for all involved.”
The vehicle was immediately impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1999.99.
The driver will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
“Victoria Police will continue to target dangerous driving to keep our roads safe,” the spokesperson said.
