The former Rochester Police Station site was officially demolished during the week of August 12.
After significant flood damage in 2022, officers were unable to work out of the site and relocated temporarily to Elmore Police Station.
In January 2023, a temporary police station was placed at the rear of the damaged brick building and in October 2023, portable units were brought in to allow for greater policing capacity.
The demolition of the former site means that construction for a permanent station can begin.
Inspector Brett Sampson said in October 2023 that the permanent building was expected to be completed within 18 months.
The 2023-24 Victorian Budget allocated $1.3 million to build the site with an expected completion date of mid-2025.
In May this year, State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes confirmed the construction was still on track after its funding was folded into a statewide fund for improved police infrastructure.
The Rochester police phone number remains the same and officers can be reached on 5484 1100.
